The Post Graduate and Research Department of Economics, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous) organised two days National Seminar titled “COVID-19 and Self- Reliant India: Opportunities and the Way Forward” on 21st & 22nd March, 2022. During the inaugural session Dr. A. Xavier Susairaj, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Economics welcomed the gathering. Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter, Vice-Principal and COE delivered the inaugural address. Distinguished Economist Dr. J. Jeyaranjan, Vice-Chairperson, State Development Policy Council, Chennai was the chief guest and delivered the key note address. On the first day there were three technical sessions viz., Agricultural Value Chain and Marketing Reforms, Service Sector, and Health Sector. Professors, Research Scholars and students around the nation presented their research papers.

On the second day a panel discussion on the following topics were conducted: “India@75 - Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, Resolve@75, Achievement@75 and Action@75. The panel discussion was followed by the technical sessions: Migrant Workers and Labour Market, Impact on MSMEs and other various sectors. About 20 eminent scholars addressed on the topic. During the valedictory function, Dr. S.R. Xavier Rajarathinam, Vice Principal (Academics), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous) delivered the valedictory address and the chief guest Rev. Dr. A.T. Thomas, SDB, Former Professor of Economics delivered the key note address. About 120 papers were presented and 400 participants attended the seminar.
