Salesian Educational Empowerment Of Rural Students
SEERS is a project run by Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur in response to Total Literacy drive by the province. Education is the best way of empowering people. The main intention of this project is to prevent the school dropouts, to give quality education through special coaching in the evening and to make all the students to compete with their urban counterparts.
For the past 5 years we have been conducting more than 10 study centers in different villages around Tirupattur. In each center 2 of our alumni of the same village have been appointed as tuition masters. The students are being given special coaching in the evening from 5 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in the respective village school premises.
Through this venture nearly 1200 rural poor students are being benefited. The beneficiaries of this project are the potential students of our college.
Special features of the project
In order to bring a habit of savings among students a new scheme called “ SEERS Savings Scheme was started”. The savings of the students as on this date is Rs.22, 164.00.
Over the years, we could say with a sense of pride that our college students do not discontinue their studies, by reason of financial constraints. And hence, the number of ‘dropouts’ may be at the most 1 or 2 students. Apart from the management, our staff members do subjectively lend a helping hand to the students who are in need of financial assistance. As a result the ‘dropout’ number is very negligible.
