Significant Activity-Research
Research is an important activity of our institution where the faculty members participate actively, which is assured by:
Starting Postgraduate courses with research programmes.
Encouraging faculty members to pursue M. Phil., and Ph. D. Programmes.
To undertake major and minor Researches.
A research cell with two wings one for Science and another for Arts and Social Sciences.

During the years 2000 – 2005, 12 faculty members have obtained their Doctoral Degree and one member has obtained M. Phil. Degree and 18 have registered for their Ph. D. degree.
Nine of our faculty members have utilized FIP facility during this period.
The members of the research cell meet periodically and the various research achievements and the research publications of the faculty members are shared.
Ten Major and Minor Research projects are carried out during this period assisted by UGC, ICSSR and Malcolm and Elizebeth Adiseshiah Trust, Corporate Sectors and Non Governmental Organisations.
Financial Provision for Research and Development
Funds have been diverted for providing the departments with a computer system.
Special provision has been made to establish a mini computer center in the Research and Postgraduate Departments of Mathematics and Social Work.
For the faculty members to travel abroad for attending conference and to make paper presentation a revolving fund of Rs. 50,000/- is reserved which the faculty members can take it as an advance and pay back in easy installments.
Participation of Students in Academic Research
Full time and Part time Ph. D. programme is offered in the departments of Economics, Mathematics and Social Work
Full time M. Phil course is offered in the departments of Economics, Mathematics and Computer Science.
The postgraduate students of Economics, Social Work, Physics and Computer Science have research project work as part of the academic programme.
In Chemistry and Computer Science departments at the under graduation level Project Work is made as an academic requirement to complete their graduation programme.
The students from the department of social work participate in collection and processing of data and also report preparation in the collaborative Researches and at times special research projects.

During the period 2000 – 2005 ten faculty members have undertaken 21 research projects funded by different organization and the funds vary from Rs. 10,000 to 1,50,000 per project with a total cost of Rs. 13,20,000/-.
On an average five projects were in operation per year

Research Facilities on the Campus
A Computer lab with six systems for Data Processing for the Research Scholars and the Post Graduate Students in the Department of Social Work.

Internet browsing centers for the students in the Main Computer Lab and also in the Library Building
A separate research cell with internet facility is available in the department of computer science.
An account for online access for IEEE journals is available.

Dr. Padmanaban from the department of Economics has retired in the year 2002 however he continued the research programme for those scholars who have registered with him for their doctoral programme and they have successfully completed.
The other research guides have started guiding the scholars only recently and at present in the college there are 11 doctoral students either in part time or full time.
The college does not institute any regular fellowship or scholarship for the research scholars. However the scholars are given financial support for attending seminars and conferences.
Collaborative Researches
In collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai as a member of Schools of Social Work, the Department of Social Work took part in the research study on “The Waves of Destruction – After Effects of Tsunami”. The funding partners and the NGOs are using the results to design the rehabilitative measures to the tsunami-affected people.
In collaboration with the Pontifical University Rome the Department of social work has assisted in data collection and data analysis work for two studies.

Dr. K. Ravi of Department of Mathematics was conferred an honorary appointment to the Research Board of Advisors in the American Bio Graphical Institute, Releigh, NC27612 USA, since 2003.
Dr. Ravi’s name was included in the Contemporary “Who is Who” a significant reference volume published by the American Biographical Institute, 2002-2003.
Dr. Ravi was nominated by the Governing Board of Editors of the American Biographical Institute to receive the American Medal of Honour 2003.
Dr. Maria Susai Manuel of Department of Mathematics was conferred an honorary appointment to the Research Board of Advisors in the American Bio Graphical Institute, Releigh, NC27612 USA, since 2003.
