Event Details

The 73rd Sports Day of Sacred Heart College was celebrated on 28th July, 2023, in the college grounds at 8.30 a.m. The chief Guest was Rev. Dr. Jaya Shanthi, Principal, Auxilium College, Vellore and the Guest of Honour was Mr. S. Mareeswaran, Indian Hockey Player, Inspector of Income Tax, Income Tax Department, Chennai.

         The 73rd Sports Day celebrations commenced with a prayer song sung by the college choir. Rev. Dr. K. A. Maria Arockiaraj, the Additional Principal, Shift II, welcomed the chief guest, the guest of honour, the teaching fraternity, the support staff and the students. He also, introduced the chief guest, the guest of honour and honoured them with mementos. The Sports Day was initiated by a seamless fusion of march-past and oath taking. The athletes of Sacred Heart College lit the Olympic torch and they swore to abide by the rules in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

        Later, the chief guest Rev. Dr. Jaya Santhi, in her keynote address to the audience, congratulated the winners of various sports events. While reflecting on the present scenario of the youth, she said that she was unhappy to see the students being engrossed in smartphones.  She urged the students to be positive and participate in all the sports activities. Further, she advised them to limit the usage of mobiles and stay healthy by participating in sports and games.

      The Guest of Honour, Mr. Mareeswaran, while addressing the students, said that students should take part in sports to stay healthy and fit. He stated that participation was more important than winning. In recent times, students have become more involved in online games than outdoor games. Students should utilize the opportunity that they get to excel in sports.

       Sports events were conducted for both men and women students. For the faculty, games such as Relay and Swiss Ball Relay for Men and for the women faculty, Lucky Circle were conducted.

       Prizes and medals were awarded to the winners. The Department of Commerce, Shift I and Department of History, Shift II, won the over all championship.

      The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof. Bento Devaraj, the Physical Director. He thanked everyone for the vibrant participation.
