Event Details

The 73rd Republic Day was celebrated on 26th January 2022, in Sacred Heart College. The Salesian community, the teaching and non-teaching staff and the students participated in the celebration maintaining social distancing protocols. The event was also live- streamed through the college’s official YouTube Channel. The entire student community was asked to join the YouTube streaming.

The Celebration began with the Thamizhthai Vazhthu. Lieutenant. Major. Dr. K. Sivakumar, welcomed the gathering, Rev.Dr.Praveen Peter, the Vice-Principal (Administration) introduced the Chief Guest Dr V.G. Santhosam, Founder, VGP Group of Companies, VGP Ulaga Tamil Sangam Chennai. The Guard of Honour was accepted by Rtn. Er. V. Bharathi, the President, of Rotary Club. Tirupattur. Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, the Principal, welcomed the gathering and delivered his Republic Day message. He wished everyone A Happy Republic Day.  It was followed by contingent drill performed by the NCC Cadets.

The Chief Guest in his address to the audience and the cadets elaborated on the significance of Thirukkural and its universality. He urged the students to love the country, be brave and stay devoted   to become a greater nation. India has become a powerful country because of the sacrifices of our courageous veterans like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

The Celebration concluded with the Vote of Thanks and National Anthem.

The Republic Day celebration was followed by the unveiling of Thiruvalluvar's statue of about 5 ½ ft tall near the college library. It was sponsored by The VGP group. The statue was unveiled by Kalaimamani, Dr. V.G. Santosam, Founder of VGP Group and the World Tamil Sangam on Wednesday 26.01.2022 at 10 a.m. The VGP Tamil Sangam headed by Kalaimamani Dr. Santhosam aims at promoting the Tamil culture and the significance of Thirukkural across the globe.  The pedestal on which the statue is erected is sponsored by Tirupattur Rotary Club. The statue of Thiruvalluvar has been erected here as a symbol of our culture to put forth the great ideals of Thiruvalluvar to the students and to the people. It can be said that there is no one in this world who could equal Thiruvalluvar in teaching the ethics of life. We need to understand and learn more deeply to reflect on such a great visionary. The Tamil Sangam group has so far put up more than 130 statues of Thiruvalluvar in India and across the globe. Dr. Pon Selvakumar, Head of the Department of Tamil, anchored the inauguration ceremony.  The Principal of the College,Rev.Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, Rev.Dr. John Alexander, the Secretary presided and thanked the sponsors for their philanthropic deeds. Arrangements for the ceremony were made by the Administrator of the College, Rev.Fr. Sathyanathan. The Salesian community, the teaching and non teaching staff and students took part in this culturally significant event of the college. Prizes were distributed to students for participating in the various Thirukkural competitions organised by the Department of Tamil.
