Distribution of Flood Relief Materials

Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur

Sacred Heart College reached out to the most affected families due to the heavy rain pour and flood in Tirupattur. The students of Social Work Department initiated and coordinated the whole process of identifying the deserving families and mobilizing the resources. On 30th November 2021, 200 families were supported with the materials worth of Rs. 4 lakhs. 

The unusual heavy rainfall and flood during the month of November 2021 damaged many families who were residing close to lakes of Tirupattur. Many houses were completely collapsed and others were partially damaged. Water raise washed away the household materials in many families. The students of social work department wanted to respond to the needs of people and hence, with the support and encouragement of the college and faculty members, undertook a scientific study to identify the most affected and deserving families to assess the damage and the immediate needs of the families.

On 30th November 2021 the relief material distribution program was organized in the college premises. The Rector Rev. Fr. John Alexander, The Principal Rev. Fr. Maria Antony Raj, and Rev. Fr. Andrews Raja the Head of Social Work Department and the Director of NDSO organization Mr. J. Prabhakaran were present to thank the sponsors and distribute the relief materials kit. They said that the students-led program was the God’s work and appreciated all the students who volunteered to support the flood affected families.

About Rs. 4 lakhs worth of materials were distributed to 200 families. The resources such as dry ration kit, bet sheets, mats and tarpaulin to cover the damaged roof. The relief materials were mobilized from different stakeholders. Sacred Heart College management, staff, students and alumni sponsored dry ration kit worth of Rs. 600/- each for 200 families from their part.  Mr. Arockiarasaiya the student of MSW department mobilized the relief materials from a non-governmental organization called NDSO.

The programme was coordinated by the MSW department, Department of Extension Education and Services and MBA department. Dr. K. Arockiaraj coordinated the entire programme.
