Report of the Annual General Body Meeting

Annual Alumni Day of Sacred Heart College was held on 26th January, 2020. The meeting started with registration at 9.30 am. The day started with department wise registration for membership and participation. Members were explained the Life and Annual Membership by the Executive members and Volunteers.

The Sports events for alumni were planned from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Since there was lack of participation it was shortly concluded.

The Annual General Body meeting started at 11.00 a.m. with a prayer song. Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, Principal and the Sacred Heart College Unit Delegate presided over the programme as chief guest. 132 alumni members participated in this meet along with the present faculty members. The Annual General Body meeting was ably guided by the Master of Ceremony by Dr. U. Ramesh, the Vice President (Gex).

Adv. A. Jacob, Executive Member welcomed the gathering and expressed his happiness and joy for being part of this programme.

Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, Principal and the Sacred Heart College Unit Delegate delivered the Chief Guest address. He mentioned the strong intention of the college in achieving one among the Best 50 colleges in India.  He also shared various achievements made by the faculty members and the important events like Rector Major’s Visit and the Visit of South Asian Regional, Rev. Fr. Maria Arockiam Kanaga SDB. There was a special mentioning of the research initiatives of the faculty members and their hard work to match the needs of student development. Sharing his experience of his visit to USA as part of Meritorious Fulbright Fellowship, he explained how US Universities excel through the support of their Alumni. Thereby, he stressed on the past pupil’s involvement through various means of extending support to the college. Appreciating the goodwill and hard work of the Executive Members he invited them to explore more innovative means of engaging past pupil.

Dr. S.M. Krishnan, the President, delivered the Presidential address. He appreciated the support of the College Management towards past pupil engagement, especially the support rendered by Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj in implementing various activities as planned by Alumni Association. With greater appreciation for the achievements of the College, he acknowledged that after 25 years in the college history of the our Fr. Principal was elected as the Syndicate Member of Thiruvalluvar University. He invited all the members to become life members of the Alumni Association and to extend their support in whatever the way they could contribute.

Dr. C.R. Christi Anandan, Secretary, Sacred Heart College Alumni Association presented the Annual Report of the Alumni Association mentioning the various activities including the Chapter meetings held in Chennai and Hosur. He reported about the activities such as Coffee Painting Training for Slum Children, Meal shared for Children of Government High school on Children’s Day, Sharing day with Mahathma Gandhi Old Age Home and other activities. As a special report he mentioned the meetings held on 25th January 2020 at Chennai, when more than 200 alumni members of 1970-74 batches along with retired professors gathered at RGM Telecom Training Center, Chennai. Rev. Dr. Antonyraj, Rector and Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter, Vice Principal represented the college and shared their joy and memories.

Mr. Nicola Prakash, Treasurer, Alumni Association presented the financial report for the annum, 2019-20.

As a mark of event the Executive Committee has offered Scholarship for a poor student from the Department of Economics as a support for his studies. Mr. Rooph Sing, our prestigious sports alumnus has also initiated a sponsorship for Rs. 10,000/-.

The floor was then opened for the expressions of the Alumni gathered, where the members shared the way the college has supported them in the past which has resulted in their present status which otherwise would not have been possible. Members have also expressed their solidarity with the college.

Mr. A. Gopinathan, Vice President of Alumni Association has proposed a vote of thanks and concluded the event with the appreciations to all those who have worked very hard to make this event a successful one.

 A group photo was captured to retain the memories of the event. A sumptuous meal was served to all the members, participants and volunteers.  

Department wise meeting was held after the lunch. In these meetings the alumni had the chance to meet their own professors to discuss the developments in their departments. It was also a happy moment to find the alumni extending their support to each of their departments.
