The Christian Workers Movement – India (CWMI) started in 1996 at Chennai for the overall development of the workers in India. The CWMI members are conscious of being evangelized by working to emancipate men and women by siding with the excluded by our societies and by throwing themselves heart and soul into the effort of building a world fit for all live in. 

 

The Southern Zonal Meet of Christian Workers Movement - India was held on 7th December 2019 at Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur.  Leaders from all the Dioceses of the four Southern States were present. The event started at 9.30 am with a prayer song and a prayer by Mr. N. Devadasan, Coordinator, CWMI. It was followed by a welcome address by CWMI National President Mr. G.A. Mangalaraj. Rev. Dr. C. Antonyraj, Rector gave the inaugural address in which he insisted on how we need to follow and implement the values of Jesus in order to bring changes in our society. A brief talk was given by the Chaplain, CWM - Vellore Rev. Fr. Sagaya Josephson. Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, Principal in his inspiring talk gave us an insight for our work for the poor, referring the passage of the "Last Judgement" from St. Mathew's Gospel. With the conviction that no matter what we do for others, it is for Jesus we are doing. We concluded our first session with the vote of thanks by Mr. Maria Stalin, Exco member CWMI. 

 

Mr. Rajasekar, AREDS, Karur spoke at length about the `New Labour Code` yet to be passed and its consequences if passed. His talk created awareness on how to deal with the present & future problems of unorganized workers. Mrs. Manimozhi, M.A. B.L, Senior Advocate gave us an interesting talk on how human beings are discriminated under the guise of law and how they should be treated with dignity beyond caste and creed. It was an enriching experience for all. Mrs. Roselin Jeeva Field Organiser CWMI spoke on "Violence against Migrant & Domestic Women Workers". The participants went on a rally from DB Centre to Carreno Hall with nearly 400 workers from the surroundings saying slogans in unison, seeking protection & social security for the unorganized workers. We had a public meeting in which Most. Rev. Dr. Lawrence Pius, DD Bishop of Dharmapuri was the chief guest. Mr. T.T. Kumar, AIADMK, Mr. Edwin, an Entrepreneur & member of CWM TPT, Sadhu, Gurusamy Balaji were present as the guests of honour. All of them spoke about how every worker and their rights should be respected and protected and their security and future should be assured.  The one day program came to an end with the distribution of Social Security Cards to 25 unorganized workers by Mr. G.A. Mangalaraj, President, CWMI. At the end Mr. M. Aruldoss, District President, CWMI, Vellore proposed vote of thanks.
