The Department of Physics of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur organized an “International Conference on Advances in Materials Research” (ICAMR -2019) on 12th February 2019, as part of the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Department of Physics     (Shift-II). The event was funded by the Management and by the Alumni of the Department of Physics batch 1989-92.

The conference started at 9.15 a.m. with a prayer song. Mr.D.Daniel Lawrence, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics welcomed the elite gathering. The event was formally inaugurated with lighting of lamp by the dignitaries. Rev.Dr.D.Maria Antony Raj, Principal of the Institution delivered the Presidential address. In his address he thanked the resource persons and alumni of 1989-92. He also mentioned the importance of Materials in the recent technology. Dr.S.R.Xavier Rajarathinam, Head, Department of Chemistry and Vice-Principal (Academics) felicitated the gathering. The conference proceeding was released by Rev.Dr.D.Maria Antony Raj, Principal. The first copy was received by Dr. Alain Largeteau, followed by Dr.Mythili Prakasam, Dr.S.R.Xavier Rajarathinam, Dr.A.Albert Irudayaraj, Dr.M.Jose, and Mr.C.Thirupathi.

The conference comprised four technical sessions involving resource persons from various technical institutes, including a lecture by Dr.Alain Largeteau, Head, CRNS- Engineer, ICMCB-CNRS, France, Dr.Mythili Prakasam CRNS- Engineer, ICMCB-CNRS, France, Dr.S.Saravanan, Principal Research Scientist, Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and Dr.S.Kanagesan, Senior Lecturer, University of Malaya, Malaysia.
Research scholars, students of UG, PG from Sacred Heart College and other colleges participated.  Total number of participants from the other institutions was 140.  The oral and poster presentation sessions were conducted during the post lunch session. This was followed by the feedback session, when the students and staff from other colleges expressed their views about the conference.

    The valedictory session commenced at 5.15 p.m. Dr.M.Jose, Dean of Research welcomed the gathering. Rev.Dr.G.Theophil Anand, Vice Principal (Shift-II) felicitated the gathering. Rev. Dr.K.A. Maria Arokiaraj, Additional Principal delivered the Valedictory address. In his address, he expressed that the young participants must benefit from such events and apply the knowledge gained to their day to day life in future. Prizes for best oral presentations and best posters were distributed by the dignitaries. Mr.C.Thirupathi, Convener of this conference proposed the vote of thanks.
 
To cap it all, this international conference was an eye opener to many students for planning their career.
