The PG and Research Department of English, Shift II organised an Invited Talk entitled Films and Academia on 21st February 2024 at Mother Therasa Hall. Mr. P. Ponnivalavan Peruvalluthi, a well-known script writer, film maker and Head, Department of English, Government Arts and Science College, Tirupattur, was the resource person. Mr. S.Jeevananthan, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English introduced the resource person. Mrs. J. Mary Jenif, Head (UG), Department of English and Mr. A. Peter Conisious Prabhu, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English felicitated and honoured the resource person with a memento. The resource person Mr. Ponnivalavan briefed about the nuances of Film making especially in academic field. The techniques of film making and various stages involved in film making such as pre-production and post-production were elaborated. He educated the students about the evaluation of film making in several decades. He also provided concise information about techniques involved in making a film particularly script writing, cinematography, editing, sound system, and casting. Further he engaged with the participants regarding with the essence of script writing such as outlining, character designing, pre-writing, formatting and rewriting of script. He provided an example from Disney’s film Coco (2017) and few Tamil movies to elucidate about the formatting of cinematography. The students actively participated in the event.
