Event Details

The grandeur of the 75th Republic Day unfolded at Sacred Heart College on the 26th of January 2024, uniting the Salesian community, dedicated faculty, and enthusiastic students in a celebration of patriotism and unity. To ensure wider participation, the event was live-streamed on the college's official YouTube Channel.

The festivities commenced with the rendition of the Thamizhthai Vazhthu, setting the stage for a memorable occasion. Lieutenant Major Dr. K. Sivakumar extended a warm welcome to the gathering and introduced the esteemed Chief Guests, Dr. A. Albert Irudayaraj, (Vice-PrincipaL Student Affairs, Shift – I) and Head of the Department of Physics, and Dr. D. Leslin, Head of the Department of History. The Chief Guests graciously accepted the Guard of Honour.

Rev. Dr. D. Maria Arockiaraj, the Additional Principal, graced the occasion with a heartfelt Republic Day message. He emphasized the collective responsibility of every citizen to preserve the constitution bestowed upon us by our visionary leaders. Wishing everyone a Happy Republic Day, he urged a renewed commitment to upholding the values enshrined in the constitution. The NCC Cadets then showcased their discipline and precision through a captivating contingent drill.

In his enlightening address, Chief Guest Dr. D. Leslin provided a historical perspective on Republic Day, underlining its significance. He paid homage to stalwart leaders such as Dr. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, and Rajendra Prasad, whose contributions laid the foundation for the democratic ethos of our nation. Dr. Leslin expressed concern about political interferences posing a threat to the sanctity of the Indian constitution and urged the present generation to safeguard it. He emphasized the universality of the constitution and encouraged students to foster love for the country, exhibit bravery, and stay devoted to contribute towards building a greater nation. Acknowledging the sacrifices of courageous veterans, he highlighted India's ascension to a powerful nation.

The celebration concluded with expressions of gratitude in the Vote of Thanks and the resonating strains of the National Anthem. The entire Salesian community, along with the teaching and non-teaching staff and students, actively participated in this culturally significant event. As a token of recognition, prizes were distributed to NCC Cadets students for their outstanding achievements.
