| From the inception of college, the department has been offering foundation courses in Tamil for UG students. |
| In 2004, M.A. Tamil was introduced in the autonomy mode and a creative and well thought out syllabus has been set. All the faculty members are qualified. They have prepared text books for UG students taking into account the needs and interests of student community. |
| At the UG level a field based minor research work has been given as part of the course. Muthamizh vizha is an annual star attraction of the college activity, well organized by the department. Talented speakers in Tamil all over Tamil Nadu have been invited and they have addressed the students over the years. The faculty have authored several books and have attended national/ international conferences. |
