| Examination System |
| Under Autonomy |
| There are two components in the evaluation and assessment of a student, namely Continuous Assessment [CA] and Semester Examination [SE]. The CA will take place during the course of the semester and the SE shall be conducted at the end of each semester. i.e Odd Semester in October –November and Even Semester in April. |
| Each UG course [B.A./ B.Sc./B.Com.] shall consist of six semesters. Each PG course shall consist of four semesters. |
| Continuous Assessment [CA] |
| 1. |
The component and actual conduct of CA are left to the Departments. |
| 2. |
The maximum marks for CA is 25 for UG and 50 for PG |
| 3. |
Two Written tests are conducted centrally and the average is taken. |
| |
Incase a student is absent for valid reason, another test may be conducted at the discretion of the Principal |
| 4. |
There shall be no passing minimum for CA |
| 5. |
There is no provision for improvement of CA. |
| 6. |
Attendance marks are to be given for each paper |
| |
The 5 marks for the attendance shall be awarded as follows |

| If the percentage of attendance in each semester is: |
| 76 and above but less than 80 |
: |
1 mark |
| 80 and above but less than 85 |

2 marks |
| 85 and above but less than 90 |

3 marks |
| 90 and above but less than 95 |

4 marks |

| Semester Examinations [SE] |
| 1. |
This component shall carry 75 marks for each paper for UG and 50 marks for each paper for PG. Each paper shall be of three hours duration. |
| 2. |
There shall be double valuations for UG and PG papers, and both valuations will be internal. The average of the two marks will be taken as the final marks. |
| 3. |
A third valuation may be done, if there is a difference of more than 12 marks for UG papers and 8 marks for PG papers between the two valuations. |
| 4. |
There will be no revaluation. |
| 5. |
Re-totalling may be allowed with nominal fees. |
| 6. |
Examination for Odd Semester arrears will be conducted along with the Odd Semester regular examinations. |
| 7. |
Examination for Even Semester arrears will be conducted along with the Even Semester regular examinations. |
| 8. |
For the final year students, the examinations for V semester arrears of UG, III semester arrears of PG and I semester arrears of PGDCSA may be conducted together with the final Even Semester regular examinations. |
| 9. |
Further, any student may be permitted to appear for the paper which is made available in the time table to clear his arrears. |
| 10. |
When the syllabus is revised.the arrear student is allowed to complete his arrears writing the examinations under the current syllabus.Incase the papers are changed,the department will allot a substitute paper to complete the arrear. |
| 11. |
Moderation:Maximum of 2 marks may be added if they are required for a pass for each paper. |

| Passing Minimum |
| A student shall be declared to have passed in a paper if he secures: |
| UG |
| 40% and above in the Semester Examination and 40% and above in the aggregate of CA and Semester Examinations. If a candidate fails, he shall be required to repeat the semester examination for that paper. |
| PG |
| 50% and above in the Semester Examination and 50% and above in the aggregate of CA AND Semester Examination. If a candidate fails, he/she shall be required to repeat the semester examination for the paper. |
| Practical Examinations |
| 1. |
For CA, the maximum mark is 50. There shall be no passing minimum for CA. Improvement of CA will not be permitted. |
| 2. |
75 percent attendance is necessary to appear for Semester Examination. The Maximum mark for SE is 50. Arrears will follow the pattern of SE [theory]. |

| Environmental Education |
| 1. |
Environmental Education shall be taught in the second, third and the fifth semesters. The SE of Environmental Education shall be of two hours duration. Marks shall be distributed as 25 for CA and 75 for SE. The passing minimum shall be 50% in the aggregate. A student shall be eligible to get the Degree only if he passes in the examination of Environmental Education. |

There is only one CA conducted for the Semester. It carries 15 marks. 10 marks are allotted for attendance. |
| 3. |
The Value Education question paper will be set in English with Tamil translation. The student may answer the paper either in English or in Tamil. |
